The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
