It's difficult for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was out the team required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this tournament is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
